Rowena Nottrot

Rhythmical Massage Therapist

I was born in Holland and came to live in England thirteen years ago.  My grandparents used to live here, so it has always felt like a second home.

I trained as a nurse in Amsterdam and spent six months in Africa during my training, which was very special. When I moved to England, I lived and worked for many years at Nutley Hall, an anthroposophical community for people with special needs. My grandfather had worked there before me as a biodynamic gardener and class teacher. Community life and connecting with people continue to be important threads in my life, I currently live in a house shared with several other people.

At the moment, I am expanding my practice by studying Rhythmical Massage Therapy at Emerson College, working on health through the body. Massage - soothing pain through touch - has been around for a long time. In Ancient Greece, it was used to bring the body and the soul into balance, enabling the body to be a healthy instrument for the cultural tasks of the Greeks. Today, we still use massage and other healing arts to help the body become a good home for the soul and spirit. I am deeply interested in health, wholeness, growth and transformation, and our life’s purpose in these interesting times.

During the caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly, it goes through a stage inside the cocoon where it becomes a messy, unrecognizable soup! The new is born out of chaos, serving as a good example of how periods of transition and uncertainty in nature can lead to beautiful transformation and renewal.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading, going for walks in the beautiful English countryside, visiting the seaside, and spending time with friends. I also love cooking, being creative and gardening.
